Serinus Citrinella or Citril Finch - Basic Guide
You may not be aware that Serinus Citrinella is actually the name of a bird. It is also called the Citril finch and its latin denomination is Carduelis citronella.. It is called Serinus because for a long time it was believed that it belonged to the Serinus genus, although now, in the light of new discoveries it is quite clear and uncontested that this bird is very closely related to the European Goldfinch. In any case, Serinus Citrinella is a small song bird, member of the finch family, also known as Fringillidae. Songbirds evolved 50 million years ago in that part of the world where we have Australia, New Guinea, Antarctica and New Zeeland nowadays. Songbirds are best known because humans like to hear their songs but this is not always a rule: crows are considered to be songbirds, but their harsh sounds are not so popular with humans.
Serinus Citrinella lives in the mountains in Europe, on an area that extends from Spain to the Alps. It also lives in the forests of southwestern Germany, in the Black Forest mountains. Serinus Citrinella is not longer than 12 cm, it is kind of grayish with brown and yellow.
